Greta Gleissner is the founder and executive director of Eating Disorder Recovery Specialists. In recovery since 2001, Ms. Gleissner has firsthand knowledge of the challenges individuals face in the eating disorder recovery process, particularly during transitions. Her personal recovery and expertise in the field was the primary impetus for the co-creation of Eating Disorder Recovery Specialists.
Eating Disorder Recovery Specialists (EDRS) is a nationwide meal support and coaching program that provides support where you need it the most: in your environment. We come to your home, school, or work to bridge the gap between treatment and “real” life. EDRS provides meal coaching, clinical coaching, in-home cooking, and therapeutic exposures 7 days a week; days, evenings, and weekends. Our meal support and coaching program works alongside treatment programs and outpatient providers to provide the eating recovery support you need to make seamless transitions through all phases of your recovery.
Specialized Eating Disorder Treatment
I provide warm, empathic, comprehensive treatment for anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, exercise addiction, chronic dieting, emotional eating, and body image issues. Whether you have been diagnosed with an eating disorder or consider yourself to have general issues with food, it is never too early or too late to seek treatment.
Eating disorders are extremely serious, life-threatening illnesses that affect one physiologically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Upon initial consultation, I may provide additional referrals to nutritionists, psychiatrists, or physicians who specialize in the treatment of eating disorders if needed. Together, the treatment team will work closely throughout the course of treatment.
I know from personal and professional experience how difficult life can be when dealing with a preoccupation and obsession with food, body image, or exercise, etc. Eating disorders tend to seep into nearly every aspect of one’s life, interfering with one’s ability to be present with themselves and others. Through my own experience and recovery, I know it is possible to live life without food obsession and eating disorder behaviors.
It is not necessary to have been diagnosed with an eating disorder to seek treatment. The only requirement for treatment is a desire to change. Deciding to call and make an appointment is the first step to changing more than your behavior. It is a step towards changing your life.
You no longer have to struggle alone. Together, we can start this journey of healing and recovery. You deserve a life of hope, health, and happiness!
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Modalities of Treatment
Individual Therapy:
Individual therapy sessions last 50 minutes. Sessions may be scheduled once, twice, or three times a week depending on the individual client needs.
Meal Support Therapy:
Meal support therapy is an option for those who have difficulty with eating and completing meals, identifying emotional and physical hunger cues, have fear foods and/or food rituals, or who would like general support around eating. This modality is particularly helpful for clients who are stepping down from higher levels of care.
